Memorials and wall plaques

Memorials and wall plaques on the first floor also tell much of the history of St. John's. President James Monroe attended worship here on Sunday , July 13th , 1817. The Shadow painting or " trompe de l'oeil" was done in 1848 and was very unusual for it's time. Over the sanctuary are the representations of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist with the center figure representing Jesus Christ ascending into heaven.
