Steeple Bell

The Steeple Bell is a prize of war taken at the the Battle of Louisbourg in 1745. (Sadly, it cannot be visited , but a photo can be seen in the south vestibule.) George Mitchell, a warden of the church, was a member of the expedition from Portmouth under the command of Colonel William Pepperell, who removed the bell to Portsmouth and installed it in the Belfry of Queen's Chapel. It was later sent to Paul Revere in Boston to be repaired after it was damaged in the famous Christmas Eve fire of 1806.
