2008 Summer Projects & Ideas include:
The Men's group will be painting the sacristy starting the 12th of July, no one can remember when it was done last. Another project we have in the works is the old cemetary. There are several stones that need to be re-set and at least two that are broken and need repair along with the mowing and trimming. We will keep you up to date on further projects.

See you in July!

About the St. John's Men's Group:
There has always been several organizations for the women of St. Johns, each with a definite agenda, each with it's own purpose and for as long as I can remember, nothing for the men.

When I mentioned this to a fellow 'Eight O'Clocker' I was informed there had been a very active mens group several years ago and suggested we bring it back to life, we have.

At our first meeting we decided the when, where and what the agenda might be. The when would be at 8:30 AM on the first Saturday of the month, the where would be in the Philbrick Room of St. John's Parish House. It was decided there would be no set agenda but simply an open discussion, sharing a cup of coffee and deciding from month to month what we would like to do at the next meeting. A couple policies were adopted, first, we would sit in a circle so no one had their back to the anyone, we would never discuss religion or politics and only one person would speak at a time. The meeting would be for one hour unless we all agreed there was a need for it to be longer.

Several prospective projects have been discussed, things we might do such as the repair and straightening of the stones in the cemetery and trying to determine who is buried there. At the December meeting Dr. James Zuckerman talked to us about mens health care, what we could expect as we got older and how we could make educated decisions by simply reading many of several healthcare letters and articles posted on the internet. If you ask me what is on the agenda for next month, I really don't know but I'm sure it will be something interesting. If you really want to know, come join us, have a cup of coffee, join in the discussion and get to know everyone.
