Adult Inquiry Discussion > Mon Evenings Fall 2011: What Worked/What We'd Change

Monday evening December 12, 2011, at the close of the last session of "Living the Questions", the attendees spent about 15 minutes discussing the "Plusses and Deltas" (What worked well and What we might change) about the Fall program. The ground rules were similar to brainstorming: speak for yourself, say what you think (with respect for others), all ideas are written down without edits or rebuttal. We also took down a couple of ideas for the sessions starting in January. Here' what we heard and said:

PLUSSES:
Charlie (Nichols) did a great job as facilitator
Seven weeks was a good length
Discussions were very good
Loved the discussion and dialog
Hearing other points of view from others' experience was a high point
I learned a lot
I really appreciate how open and willing to share people were

DELTAS:
Seven weeks was longer than I want to commit; 4 would be better
Maximum comfortable commitment for me would be 6 weeks
Sometimes the conversation got deep into expert knowledge that I don't have: I felt stupid
I also (different person) sometimes felt really uninformed
Each video had several sections, links were sometimes unclear; difficult to digest it all
Video/written material seemed to have a premise that I didn't understand in advance
The clear focus on a single topic that we've seen the past couple of weeks at the Sunday 9AM forum ("Nooma" videos ) gives a central discussion theme that's easier to focus on
These sessions focused on being "educational"; maybe we should focus the next sessions on "living"

SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE SESSIONS
Think about basing future sessions on "one question" - we heard a lot of interesting questions in these past 7 sessions, each would be enough material for a session in itself
Copy from Rob: use the Nooma videos for a few sessions
