Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the questions you may want answers to are available on this Website...and we're working to add more information every day.  The answers here provide links to places in this site, places in other sites and people who are part of the St. John's community who will be happy to help you find what you're looking for.

Our FAQs are a work-in-progress.  If your question isn't here, please email us so we can add it.

How do I contact a minister or priest?

Please see our Clergy page for the biographies, phone numbers and email addresses of our clergy.  Most days you can also stop in to the church offices to get connected to our Rector,  Rob Stevens.  He will be glad to hear from you.

How do I find out about Sunday School and other programs for children?

Please check out the Christian Ed pages within this Website for Children (ages Infant to 5th grade) or Youth (6th to 12th grade) or email Matt Loper, Education Director at education@stjohnsnh.org or Ashley Wade, Diector of Youth Music and Ministries at youthmusic@stjohnsnh.org

What kind of church is St. John's?

St. John's is part of the "mainline" Episcopal Church in in the United States and, within that, the Diocese of New Hampshire.  Our liturgy (form of worship) is based on the Book of Common Prayer (1979).  Our commitment is to be a community that welcomes all, no matter who you are or where you are on your journey of faith.  At St. John's all are welcome, and, especially, all are welcome at God's table.  We hope you will join us for worship and want you to know that everyone who wishes to receive communion is welcome.

I'm new.  How can I get connected?

Please help us welcome you.  Let us know that you are visiting...or haven't been here for long!   Please do stand up when we ask during the service if you are visiting.  We don't want to put you on the spot, we just want to know you are here so we can welcome you properly.  Please do come to Coffee Hour or Lemonade on the Lawn after the main Sunday service.  Please do introduce yourself to one of our clergy or a friendly-looking parishioner.  All of us were new once.  We are honored that you chose to worship with us.  email us at administrator@stjohnsnh.org or email our Rector, Rob Stevens.

Can I have my wedding at St. John's?

We at St. John's Church are pleased to share in the joyous event of your wedding. Parishioners are welcome to have their wedding in the church. St. John's is also available to a limited number of non-members. The wedding coordinator will work with you to help with all the details associated with the church service.  Please call or email our Wedding Coordinator, Wendy Cote at kennebus@comcast.net or call 603-436-8283.

Does St. John's offer opportunities to volunteer in the community?

St. John's has a strong and vibrant outreach program.  Our programs are described in the Parish Life section of this Website, which includes contact information for the leaders of each program.  They will welcome your call or email.

Some of the words I see in this website aren't familiar. Is there a dictionary?

Every group tends to develop it's own vocabulary of special words and phrases. The Episcopal Church is no exception. You can find a large glossary of church terms in our Reference Library links at Episcopal Church Glossary. We try not to use jargon in the daily life of the church. Please don't ever hesitiate to ask about any word you don't recognize.
