Building Rental
The St. John’s historic Church and Thaxter Hall have always been available for concerts, recitals, parties, weddings, funerals, meetings, and more. We now offer several smaller-sized rooms on our growing list of available spaces.
We would love to see each space in-use as much as possible by St. John’s parishioners and the community at large. We offer:
Onsite parking
Handicap accessibility including wheelchair accessible seating, chair lift, and elevator access
No alcohol or smoking allowed on premise

THE SANCTUARY
Our historic church in beautiful downtown Portsmouth provides a wonderful atmosphere for weddings, vow renewals, and concerts.

THAXTER HALL
Thaxter Hall offers a large open room with a wooden floor and oversized windows. Great space for dance and music recitals, talent shows, family reunions or large parties.

ROBERTS HALL
Completed and dedicated in January of 2023, Roberts Hall is a wonderfully resonant space, ideal for small meetings and presentations, chamber music ensembles, acoustic music, and the spoken word.

THE PHILBRICK ROOM
19’ x 31’
The Philbrick Room brings all the charm and warmth of home. Including a fireplace, French doors, kitchenette and an upright piano, this is great for baby or wedding showers, small birthday parties, book groups, or a meeting room.

CHOIR ROOM
30’ x 21’
Large carpeted space. Also good for wedding and baby showers, family celebrations. Office meetings or office parties.

Mason and Hamlin Baby Grand Piano (cannot be removed)

CLASSROOM-STYLE SPACES
We have 5 classroom spaces. If you or your company is looking for a book club space, craft teaching space, meeting space, tutoring space, or you need a one-on-one space, these spaces may suit your needs.
Room 1: 15x13, carpeted and connects to room 2 if you need adjoining spaces
Room 2: 10x8, carpeted
Room 3: 15x10, carpeted connects to room 4 if you need adjoining spaces
Room 4: 15x10, carpeted
Room 5: 15x15, carpeted
All rooms have WiFi accessibility, table and chairs; all but Room 4 have windows
