WHAT?
Join us in supporting the Seacoast Queer Choir, which rehearses right here at St. John's each Monday evening under the direction of our very own Maggie O'Neill, for a free concert in the Dover City Hall Auditorium at 7PM on Monday, June 2.
The choir will be performing a variety of songs from pop hits, medieval madrigal arrangements, and harmonious rounds. The concert will begin at 7 PM, no tickets or registration are required and there will be open seating.
All are welcome to attend this colorful performance sponsored by the Dover Public Library as part of its Pride Month programming.
WHY?
Communal Singing can serve as Community Healing! There are some things we can’t do on our own, like community healing. Many people attend worship for that, but queer folks from unaffirming traditions often carry spiritual wounds that make attending traditional worship a barrier. Queer choir is designed as an offering to bridge the gap of community care that exists for folks of diverse genders, sexual orientations, and abilities who might not have access to communal singing in an affirming space.
WHY ST. JOHN'S?
St. John’s has shown care for the LGBTQ+ community by not merely signaling acceptance, but by supportive action. The signing of an open letter addressing the slate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills in the State Legislature last spring is a perfect example. This kind of on-record action builds trust in communities who have been harmed or rejected by institutions of faith in the past. The rich musical community at St. John's is uniquely positioned to open its doors to queer folks who are seeking a musical home.
