WHY IS PARKING PAID AT ST. JOHN’S?

St. John’s is fortunate to own 3 parking lots in bustling downtown Portsmouth and, with the guidance and support of our vestry, has been able to monetize these resources to enable our clergy, staff and volunteers to continue to establish, grow, and sustain programs that serve the mission, vision and values of our historic and vibrant church.

For our congregation to benefit financially from these valuable assets, we work with our parking management company to enforce paid parking at all other times not detailed here. This includes for parishioners. We may not park in any spot marked for the Ale House Inn in the lower-middle lot, nor in any spot behind the Compass Rose building with marked spots against the fence in the upper lot. Chapel Court may be the best kept secret of all downtown Portsmouth city streets – it is akin to a driveway which allows entry into our upper lot. If you choose to park in one of the 4 city-managed meter spots on Chapel Court, each of which is marked with a standalone parking meter, you must have either veteran or handicapped plates, or pay that city meter.
