Retreat Weekend and Updates

Hello youth members and families of children & teens!

This weekend we’re bringing the band out to Merrowvista for our annual retreat weekend. This will impact our Sunday morning ministries! The nursery / Prek playroom and Early Elementary Class will be available for any children in grade 2 / age 8 or younger this Sunday. The Upper Elementary class and youth tech ministry will not be available. All are always welcome in church! Cherub Choir rehearsal is canceled this Sunday 9/25 - we’ll see you on 10/2!

Acolyting is an option for upper elementary and youth members this Sunday - check out all the upcoming service roles (acolyting, reading, greeting/ushering) HERE.

QUICK MENTIONS:

This coming Wednesday, 9/28, is the first Youth Cooking For Crossroads and Dover Children’s Home for Middle and High Schoolers. More info is on the website!

Next Sunday, Oct 2nd, the Early Elementary group is invited to bring a special stuffed animal to church as we learn about St. Francis and do a “blessing of the stuffed animals.”

On Tuesday, Oct 4th at 4PM there will be a Blessing of the *real* Animals at St. Andrew’s By the Sea in Rye Beach with The Rev. Rob Stevens. A beautiful location to bring our non-human loved ones!

Our Wednesday Youth Music Program has enjoyed two rehearsals so far, and we are having a wonderful time! If you’re curious about singing with us, please come and check it out next week starting at 3:30. Email me with any questions — we are preparing to sing in early October and then again for the Presiding Bishop’s visit on November 9th.

Do you believe SJC should have an ongoing Sunday morning Middle school youth group offering? I sure do! We have a great crew of middle schoolers showing up and while service opportunities are great, we have a special opportunity to grow in relationship and community as youth group. If you think this is important you can help me by:

  • Letting me know you care about a Sunday morning Middle School gathering - this is OUR program - please tell me what you need & want.

  • Offering your time and talent to join a team - either the early elementary team or the middle school team - and letting me know what kind of a commitment you’re willing to make. Once a month? Twice a month? More? Less? If you can consider offering your time for a Sunday morning ministry, think about your preference - some parent/child relationships might benefit from space, others might not. I think most Middle Schoolers feel ready to express themselves to their peers and to trusted adults who are not their parents!

  • Making space in your personal prayer time to offer our youth ministry to God and ask for grace and guidance for all of us. I genuinely believe this will help bring us where we’re meant to be!

I feel we are on the precipice of something great — and I know there are more kiddos making their way to middle school in the years to come! We need each other to make it happen and build something that will help our young people thrive. If you have passion for young kids or teens, please consider offering a little bit to the cause. Thanks for your consideration!

Lots of love, and see you in October!
