The Rev. ROBERT E. STEVENS, JR.
PARABLE OF THE WICKED TENANTS
The Rev. Robert E. Stevens, Jr. preaches on the Gospel of Matthew 21:33-46.
Rob offers that "rejection is central to the Parable and it is a reality of the human condition…we often reject others to make sure 'our spot is safe.'
"How do we resist the temptation of making our entire lives a 'club’ that one belongs to while rejecting others? How do we resist the darkness of the phrase 'our kind of people?'
"To begin I suggest we pray the prayer attributed to St. Francis, found on pg. 833 in the Book of Common Prayer:"
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
