Telling our Story by Walking the Way of the Cross

The Rev. Aaron Jenkyn preaches on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024.

"Telling our Story by Walking the Way of the Cross"

Many of the traditions of Holy Week both here at St. John's and across the church go back centuries, passed down from generation to generation, but there are also local traditions and customs that are unique to St. John’s and each worshipping community. These local traditions are constantly evolving, yet rooted in time, making way for new people to join in, honoring those that have come before and taking into account the particular ways that the cross is experienced in that place and at that time. How we tell our story in word, tradition, and presence matters.

Palm Sunday and Holy Week are holy invitations into the story of Jesus. Both an invitation into an outward journey, of sharing our story, our faith, our beliefs with the world around us, and an introspective journey, giving us time and space to grapple with what we believe, and who we are as Christians.

As we enter into this holiest of weeks, let us do so with intention, as if for the first time; to think about what it means to us to be people of the cross. What it means to us to follow Jesus.
