"A Truer Story”

The Rev. Aaron Jenykn

Drawing on Matthew 4:12–23, this sermon reflects on how fear and power shape the stories we tell ourselves in uncertain times. Jesus responds not by waiting for safety, but by calling people into a public communal life marked by mercy and courage. We are invited to follow him together into a truer story - one rooted in love and faithful presence.

SUNDAY'S BLESSING

The world now is too dangerous

and too beautiful

for anything but love.

May your eyes be so blessed,

you see God in everyone.

Your ears, so you hear the cry of the poor.

May your hands be so blessed

that everything you touch is a sacrament.

Your lips, so you speak nothing but the truth with love.

May your feet be so blessed,

you run to those who need you.

And may your heart be so opened,

so set on fire, that your love,

your love, changes everything.

All in the name of the God

who is love.

BHTNH Tea Talks Featuring Bishop Curry

Sunday, February 8 | 4:00 p.m. Temple Israel, Portsmouth

St. John’s Episcopal Church is honored to be one of the sponsors of the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire’s Tea Talk series.

Please join us on Sunday, February 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Temple Israel for a compelling panel discussion and dialogue featuring Bishop Curry alongside Bishop Rob Hirschfeld. Together, they will explore the role of the Black preacher and the ways the pulpit has evolved into both a sanctuary and a platform for liberation, hope, and prophetic witness.

Registration is required. An online participation option is available.

This promises to be a rich and energizing afternoon of conversation at the intersection of faith, history, and justice. All are welcome, and we warmly encourage the St. John’s community to attend and support this meaningful community partnership.
