THIS WEEK'S SABBATH WALK CANCELED

Due to forecasted rain and the likelihood of slippery conditions on the walking path this Wednesday, this week’s Sabbath Walk is canceled.

If you would like to be added to the Sabbath Walk email list for updates, or if you would appreciate a short meditation to use on your own between the raindrops, please email Aaron at associate@stjohnsnh.org.

Prayers for Peace

The news of military strikes in Iran weighs heavily on many hearts. Yesterday at Outside the Box, as we heard about the faithful work of Common Man Ukraine, people tending hope in the midst of war, The Rev. Anne Williamson shared a prayer first spoken in such a time and tenderly relevant again today. We offer that prayer, along with the Presiding Bishop’s letter below, as guidance for this moment, inviting us into steady prayer for peace, for the protection of all innocent people, and for wisdom and restraint among leaders in this fragile and sacred region.

As a reminder, every Thursday the sanctuary is open for silent prayers for peace from 9:00–9:30 a.m., followed by our Healing Eucharist. All are welcome.

Letter from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe on military strikes in Iran.

“There are people and children of God whose lives and freedom are threatened, and so we pray and are mindful of what St. Paul said in Romans: ‘The Spirit helps us in our weakness, because we don’t know how to pray as we ought—and sometimes the Spirit intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.’ We pray for peace, but maybe we don’t have the words. We pray for a just peace, but maybe we don’t have the words. We pray that the lives of innocents, and the lives of any human child of God, will be spared. We pray that our leaders will find a diplomatic way—a nonviolent solution. But we don’t know how to pray as we ought, and so the Spirit must intercede for us at this time.” Amen

-The Most Reverend Michael Curry
former Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church
