"Why Does Jesus Teach in Parables?"

Why did Jesus choose stories instead of straightforward explanations? This week's sermon explores how the parables are not puzzles to solve but invitations that awaken our imagination, challenge our assumptions, and teach us to see the world — and one another — through the eyes of God's kingdom. As we reflect on the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds, we discover that the deepest transformation begins not by changing what we see, but by changing how we see.

My name is Bob McPherson, and I am thankful for my family, including my two grown children, Matthew and Mallory, and my first grandchild, Ryder, who was born in October of last year.
I am a retired lineman and recently celebrated 42 years of service as an active firefighter in my hometown of Eliot, Maine. Serving my community has been a meaningful part of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue giving back.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time at my cottage in Nova Scotia, especially during the summer and fall months.
I have been attending St. John’s for over 15 years and have always valued the community and friendships I have found here. I am honored to serve on the Vestry and recently became an usher, where I enjoy welcoming others and being a part of the church community.
